About IGT

IGT, or International Game Technology, was founded way back in the 20th century and so it’s safe to say that they are one of the longest-running casino companies in the industry. Over the years they have led the way in brick and mortar casinos developing hundreds of slot games. So, it was only a natural progression when they moved into the online area at the turn of the millennium. Ever since then, IGT has continued to push the boundaries in online casino game design and they now have thousands of titles to their name.

Games portfolio

IGT started out in the offline slot’s development market and with all their experience and popularity, they quickly started to develop a solid collection of other casino games as well. It’s fair to say that IGT are most well known for their slot games and some of their top games are indeed slots, but with all those years of knowledge, it was only natural for them to develop and design other types of casino games as well. Let’s take a closer look at these games in more detail:

IGT Slots – The biggest collection of games in the IGT bag are the slot games and you only have to start scrolling through their long list of games to find classic titles. Slots like Da Vinci Diamonds has been around for many years now and it still attracts large numbers of players. As do games like Kitty Glitter and Cleopatra 2, both of which are becoming iconic in their own right. IGT has also managed to partner with other media companies like Sony Pictures and Freemantle Media. This has led to big-name titles such as Monopoly, Wheel of Fortune, and Dungeons and Dragons being created. IGT has a lot of influence in the gambling industry and it shows with all the top slot games coming out of its multiple design studios.

IGT Table Games – A solid collection of table games is always essential for a top developer likes IGT and they have list full of all the classics. The obvious games such as blackjack and roulette are included but you can also find enjoyable versions of Caribbean stud poker, video poker, and lots of keno and instant win games as well. Over the years they have built up a long list of table games and while their graphics might not be as cutting edge as other studios, the gameplay is always highly entertaining.

IGT Jackpots – Jackpot games have become part and parcel of the online casino collection and it’s not difficult to see why with multi-million-pound prizes on offer. Players love to spin for this life-changing jackpot prize and IGT has got their fair share of popular games. The IGT Mega Jackpots series includes some of the most popular online jackpot games available, Mega Jackpots Cluedo, Mega Jackpots Monopoly, and Mega Jackpot Cleopatra are all under the IGT banner.

Unique features of IGT

IGT is clearly a frontrunner in the iGaming industry and this mostly down to their longstanding position as a leading game developer. All those years in the business has given them high ranked status and many of the smaller and up-and-coming studios look up to IGT for inspiration and direction.

IGT has headquarters in the UK but the multiple operating offices around the world helps them to be a truly global company. Multiple cultures integrate with over 12,000 employees and the range of games and themes is a direct influence of this multicultural environment.

The sheer size of IGT also helps to give it its unique setup and they have continued to make the most of this with thousands of game releases over the years.

IGT has been in the gambling industry for many years and being at the top means many awards as well. Here are some of the standout awards over recent years:

The history of IGT

IGT was officially created in the 1980s by a gambling icon and poker legend who went by the name of William ‘Si’ Redd. Mr Redd initially worked for a company called Bally in 1967 and eventually established an affiliate agency called Bally Distribution. This affiliate agency was designed to distribute slot machines and jukeboxes to casinos around Nevada, and Redds’ nickname “the king of slot games” came about from stocking huge numbers of these mechanical games.

During this time, Redd saw that slot machines and standalone games were mainly used by girls whilst they waited for their men who were playing at the Craps and Blackjack tables. Although their popularity was increasing, Bally was not interested and although they bought the distribution rights off him for these electronic games, Redd was allowed to develop and design his own personal brand of games. His Video Poker series quickly took off and they were soon found to be everywhere in Vegas. This development led to the creation of the IGT company by Redd and the rest, as they say, is history.

Redd’s first game was a simple video poker title called ‘Draw Poker’ but he soon found a gap in the market for video slot games. These didn’t take off straight away but soon after the surge in fame for his video poker machines, his video slots took off as well and that’s where he knew he had hit the big time.

Redd was an old man in 1986 and so he started to sell off his shares and completely walked away in 1991. But IGT was always born to live on and although the company has bought out companies and been bought out several times over the years, it still remains a constant source of inspiration for online casino studios. There is a good reason as to why IGT is constantly being bought and that is all because of its legacy built by William ‘Si’ Redd.

More recently, the company has been obviously focussing on its online developments as this is where the industry is heading. Nowadays, you can see their games being used at all the top casinos such as Paddy Power, Sky Vegas and Virgin Casino. If you’ve ever heard of Kerching Casino then you might be interested to know that this is IGT’s very own casino creation. Their high-profile contacts also continue to impress the casino crowd with big-name games and partnerships that always seem to make the gambling headlines.

All in all, the IGT story is a colourful one and one that goes way back to Nevada where William Redd once envisaged a dream of computerised gambling machines, it’s safe to say that his dream is being fulfilled as IGT continues to push the boundaries in the online and offline gambling world.
