Gambling Commission Tightens Bonuses and Wagering Rules to Protect Players
11 October 2026
The UK Gambling Commission has announced sweeping changes to gambling promotions, intended to reduce harm for consumers and increase transparency. A key change is a new cap of 10x wagering on bonuses.
What the Gambling Commission changed
Effective January 19, 2026, the Gambling Commission will impose an outright ban on promotional offers that combine multiple gambling products. Bonus funds will also be subject to maximum re-stake limits. Licensees must also disclose key terms upfront and allow consumers to withdraw deposits even if a bonus is active. These measures aim to make promotional offers fairer and more transparent.
The 10x wagering cap
Under the changes, the Gambling Commission will enforce a maximum wagering requirement of 10 times the bonus amount. This applies to all new promotions starting 19 January 2026.
