Brighton – Premier League Top Half Finish

The first of our Premier League betting tips for the 2024/22 season concerns Brighton and Hove Albion. Although they finished the 2020/21 season in just 16th place, the statistics don’t tell the full story.

According to most Expected Goals (xG) models, the quality of chances created by Albion should have yielded far more goals than the 40 which they bagged in reality. One model in particular suggests they should have scored 53.82, the 10th best performance in the league and higher than that of both Arsenal, who finished 8th and Everton, who finished 10th.

Going one step further, and applying the xG model to every result in the Premier League season, we discover that the Seagulls’ Expected Points (xPTS) tally of 61.41 was good enough for a fifth place finish!

Brighton’s massive underperformance last season could be down to bad luck, terrible finishing, or a mixture of the two. But regardless, any regression to the mean would see them in with a massive shout of a top 10 finish. But the likes of Unibet and 888Sport are offering a price of 7/4 (2.75) against Albion ending the season in the top half. That seems extremely generous to us.

Harry Kane – 2024/22 Premier League Golden Boot

Harry Kane is undoubtedly one of the best strikers in world football, never mind the Premier League. In a distinctly average season for Tottenham, which saw them finish in just seventh position, Kane still managed to end the season as top scorer.

Understandably, this means that the bookmakers have installed him as the pre-season favourite to win the Premier League Golden Boot again in 2024/22. His current best price of 7/2 (4.50) with BetVictor and 10Bet seems juicy though. Here’s why.

Transfer gossip suggests that Kane could be off to Manchester City. If that happens, he’ll be the focal point for the most creative Premier League side, by a long way. City outscored their closest rivals by ten full goals last season. Their final tally of 83 closely matched their xG of 77.72, suggesting that this is no fluke.

But even if Kane remains at Spurs, there’s surely no way the team can perform as badly as they did last campaign, particularly with a more attack-minded new coach at the helm. Kane would remain in a great position to match last season’s feat.

Premier League 2024/22 Betting Markets

Having offered our expert Premier League betting tips ahead of the upcoming 2024/22 season, the next topic for us to cover is the different types of betting market available.

During the pre-season, the most popular betting markets are the Outrights. At this stage, punters are trying to predict the winners of the EPL, as well as the Championship, League One and League Two. Others are attempting to work out who will be the Premier League’s top goalscorer come the end of May.

But when the season gets fully underway, most Premier League predictions, tips and betting previews are going to be concerned with the most common football markets. These are 1X2, or the Match Winner market, as well as Both Teams To Score, Draw No Bet, Over/Under 2.5 Goals and the First Goalscorer market.

For more in-depth insight into these betting markets, for the Premier League and other football competitions, be sure to check our detailed guide to betting on football.

EPL Standings

The English Premier League table is simply a way to track the progress of each team throughout the season. Come the end of the campaign, whoever sits atop the standings will be crowned as Premier League champions.

The standings are quite straightforward to understand. On the left hand side, you have the team name. Then you have P, or sometimes MP (Played/Matches Played); W (Matches Won); D (Drawn); L (Lost); GF, or sometimes GS (Goals For/Goals Scored); GA (Goals Against); and the most important factor of all, Pts (Points).

Club MP W D L GF GA GD Pts
Man City 31 23 5 3 66 21 45 74
Man United 30 17 9 4 58 33 25 60
Leicester City 30 15 7 8 53 34 19 56
West Ham 30 15 7 8 48 37 11 52
Chelsea 30 14 9 7 46 30 16 51

In the Premier League, three points are awarded for every game won, with one point earned for a draw and of course, no points for a defeat. If teams end the season on the same number of points, the tie is broken by looking at goal difference (the number of goals scored, minus the number of goals against). If they still cannot be split, the team scoring the most goals will finish highest.

Live Streaming

If you’re wanting to watch a game, perhaps in order to see how a Premier League prediction of ours gets on, then you should consider live streaming the matches. Most of the top online sports betting sites now allow you to view matches, if you have either placed a bet on the game, or have a funded account.

All of the sites recommended on this page offer such a service, but three notable sportsbooks are Bet365, Paddy Power and William Hill. These big players of the sports betting world are known for having some of the most comprehensive in-play and live streaming services around.

Who Has Won the Most Premier League Titles?

Manchester United are by far the most dominant team in the English Premier League era. Of the 29 seasons since the competition was set up in 1992, the Red Devils have lifted the trophy a staggering 13 times.

In more recent years, cross-city rivals Manchester City have achieved the feat five times, since the club was taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group. While in the 2015/16 season, Leicester City pulled off one of the most unlikely stories, winning the Premier league title as a 5,000/1 chance, having narrowly avoided relegation the season before.

The other teams to win the Premier League title are Chelsea (5), Arsenal (3), Liverpool (1) and Blackburn Rovers (1).
