Withdrawal Times by Payment Method: Why Some Are Faster

Updated 11 October 2026 · 4 min read · 18+ only, please gamble responsibly

How quickly you get your money depends on two separate clocks: the operator's internal processing (verification and any pending period) and the payment method's own transit time. E-wallets and instant bank options tend to move quickly once the operator has approved the request; debit cards and standard bank transfers are usually slower on the processor side. Neither clock is fixed, so exact times are set by each operator and provider: check the operator's terms.

The two clocks

Clock one is internal. After you request a withdrawal, many operators place it in a "pending" state while their payments or risk team reviews it. Some operators apply a deliberate pending window during which you can cancel the request and keep playing; others process requests as soon as they pass checks. The length varies between operators and may differ by account.

Clock two is the processor. Once approved, the money travels through the payment network. Wallets generally credit quickly, cards follow banking schedules, and bank transfers depend on the banks involved. A fast processor cannot rescue a slow review, and a fast review cannot speed up a slow bank.

Method by method

  • E-wallets such as PayPal, Skrill and Neteller: typically among the quicker options once approved, since the transfer is between two accounts held in the same network.
  • Debit cards (Visa, Mastercard): payouts go back through the card network and your bank, so they commonly take longer to show on your statement. Credit cards cannot be used for gambling in the UK.
  • Bank transfer (bank wire transfer): can be the slowest, and some operators set higher minimums or extra checks for it.
  • Open Banking and instant bank options such as Trustly: payouts can be quick where the bank supports faster payments, but they still pass through the operator's review first.
  • Pay by phone (pay by phone): this is a deposit-only route. You cannot withdraw to a phone bill, so you will need another method, which has to be set up and sometimes verified, adding a step.
  • Other wallets and prepaid options such as Revolut, MuchBetter and paysafecard: speed depends on the operator's support and the provider. Note that prepaid vouchers often cannot receive withdrawals at all.

Why verification causes the long waits

Operators licensed in Great Britain must verify your identity (name, address and date of birth) before you can withdraw. If the documents are not already on file, the first withdrawal is the point where many people hit the delay. Further checks can appear if the amount is large, if the account details do not match the payment method, or if a source-of-funds query is raised. These steps are the main reason a first payout is slower than later ones.

Another common cause: withdrawing to a different method than you deposited with. Many operators require payouts back to the original method where possible, and requesting something else triggers extra checks.

The 2021 UK rules also prevent reverse withdrawals: operators must not allow you to cancel a request so easily as to encourage you to keep gambling. If an operator advertises a long pending window with a "reverse" button, check how it fits with the terms.

Weekends, limits and small print

Operators often process payouts in working hours, so a request made late on Friday may not move until the next working day, and bank holidays add to the wait. Some also set weekly or monthly withdrawal caps, which can split a large win into several payments; these limits are set by the operator, so look for them in the terms before you play, not after you win. Fees, where charged, are likewise operator-specific.

A checklist to get paid faster

  1. Complete identity verification before you need to withdraw: upload clear documents at the start rather than after a win.
  2. Make sure your name and address match your payment account exactly.
  3. Withdraw to the same method you deposited with whenever possible.
  4. Check the minimum withdrawal and any fee in the terms before requesting.
  5. Finish or forfeit active bonus wagering first, because open bonuses can block a payout.
  6. Make one request for the amount you want, rather than several small ones.
  7. Request early in the day and not at the last minute before a bill is due; banks do not process on weekends and bank holidays.
  8. If it stalls, check your account messages and email for a document request before contacting support.

Read the payments section in the terms for the real numbers, then compare methods on the payments page. Only gamble with money you can afford to lose; help is available through responsible gambling and BeGambleAware.

Questions people ask

Why does my withdrawal show as pending for so long?

Most pending time is the operator's own review or verification, not the payment method. Check your account messages for a document request.

Can I withdraw to my phone bill after a pay by phone deposit?

No. Pay by phone is a deposit route only, so you will need to register another method such as a bank account or e-wallet for payouts.

Are e-wallets always the fastest option?

They are often quicker once the operator approves the request, but the operator's review time still applies. The terms of the operator set the real timing.
