The biggest event in the European Rugby Calendar, the Six Nations is back and looks as exciting as ever. As we await its launch at the start of February, let’s take a look at the teams of the nations, England, Ireland, France, Italy, Scotland and Wales, and see who has the best odds going into the tournament that kicks off next weekend.
England
England enjoyed a successful World Cup campaign and reached the final only to beaten in fairly convincing fashion to South Africa. They got the furthest out of any of the other nations in the team and they are looking the most likely, according to bookmakers, to take home the 6th nations trophy too.
Most bookmakers, including William Hill and PaddyPower are offering 4/5 on them winning, with all 3 also offering 13/8 for them to win all matches and take home the Grand Slam.
Ireland
Ireland narrowly missed out on the Trophy last year with the result being decided by the final match against Wales, which, of course, they lost and missed out on their second consecutive Six Nations trophy. This woe was then followed up by a relatively poor world cup performance.
After both of these failures, they will hope to bounce back in the 6 Nations. Bet365 and PaddyPower are both offering 4/1 on them winning this time around, with both offering 9/1 on them winning with a Grand Slam.
Wales
Wales are to looking defend their Six Nations crown after winning last year for the first time since 2013, which they did in style with their first Grand Slam since a year prior in 2012.
They will be eager to avoid another Six Nations win drought like the one that they had previously endured.
They are being given fairly good odds by the Bookies to avoid this and retain the title. Most, including Betway and Bet365, are offering 5/1 on this eventuality and 12/1 on getting another Grand Slam.
France
If France doesn’t win the 6 nations this year, then a decade will have past without them it. They will no doubt be wary of this and want to break this drought which is matched only by the two teams who have never won it, Scotland and Italy.
This is certainly something that can be avoided and bookmakers are offering odds that are only slightly less than Wales and Ireland, with William Hill and PaddyPower offering 6/1 on an out-right win and practically every bookmaker has 14/1 on them getting a Grand Slam.
Scotland
Scotland have been out in favour in this competition for some time now and this year looks to be no different.
In terms of odds, they could be worse. 25/1 is being offered by many, including Bet365 who have a much less convincing 100/1 on a Grand Slam.
Italy
If you really fancy pushing the boat out, then you could bet on Italy but, of course, this is unlikely and they have a losing streaking in the tournament that stretches over 20 games.
As such, it is no surprise they are being given odds up to 1000/1 by Betway, while their Grand Slam odds double to 2000/1. However, who knows? It could be their year.
