Each Way Betting Guide
FAQs
Sometimes your each way bet can be affected when a horse or selection is withdrawn from the race or event that you are betting on. In horse racing, this is known as a non-runner. If you get a non-runner in your race then your each way bet outcome will likely change. The reduction in the number of runners could reduce the fractional odds and/or the number of paid places. For example, the top places could be cut from 1-2-3 to just 1-2.
Each way betting is mostly available on sport racing events with at least five competitors and the fractional odds and paid places will be decided by the individual bookies. You’ll often find that the big bookies will offer up to six places in the big famous events like the Grand National so it’s worth looking around for the best E W betting terms and conditions. Keep a lookout for other each way opportunities such as greyhound racing, cycling, F1 motor racing, and even the international football events like the FIFA World Cup.
Each way terms can change from sport to sport and race to race. You’ll see the most variation within horse racing because each bookie can use slightly different odds and offer more or less the number of paid places, in relation to handicap and non-handicap races. Here are the general rules of paid places:
Non-Handicap Races
2-4 Runners: 1st only
5-7 Runners: 1/4 odds – 1st, 2nd
8+ Runners: 1/5 odds – 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Handicap Races
2-4 Runners: 1st only
5-7 Runners: 1/4 odds – 1st, 2nd
8-11 Runners: 1/5 odds – 1st, 2nd, 3rd
12-15 Runners: 1/4 odds – 1st, 2nd, 3rd
16+ Runners: 1/4 odds – 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th
