The Champions League is back! After a long lay-off, Europe’s elite clubs will come together to conclude the 2019/20 Champions League. With France, Italy, Spain and Germany’s league champions still very much in contention, it’s a star-studded line-up that is sure to deliver both fireworks and surprises.

The delayed tournament will see the remaining fixtures concluded in the correct stadium from the usual two-legged format, however, from the quarter-final stage onwards, Portugal will play hosts in a single-legged ‘Final Eight’.

With Serie A finishing last weekend, the Italian sides will be raring to go, building on the momentum they have gained while it will be intriguing to see how the French sides fare having not played a league match since March.

What are the tipsters predicting?

Juventus vs Lyon predictions

Juventus go into the tie having just secured their 9th successive Scudetto with a team high in confidence and fully match fit.

On the flip side, despite leading the fixture 1-0 on aggregate, Lyon have played only one competitive game since March, where they were edged out to PSG in the Coupe de la Ligue Final.

Cristiano Ronaldo will be desperate to get his hands on the trophy again, whilst Maurizio Sarri will look to prove his doubters wrong by progressing further in Europe’s premier trophy. If Lyon hit the ground running, they will very much be in contention in this game and with Memphis Depay having already found the net five times in the Champions League this season, he’ll be confident to add to that tally.

Manchester City vs Real Madrid

Pep Guardiola’s men produced a memorable away performance at the Bernabéu back in February to leave them in prime position to progress into the Quarter Finals. Avoid defeat at the Etihad and City will knock the Spanish champions out.

However, no team has more history in the European Cup than Los Blancos. With 13 Champions League trophies and three successive wins between 2016 and 2018, Zidane’s men will be eager to return the coveted prize back to Madrid.

City have been full of goals since the restart and with both Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling on 5 Champions League goals this season, they have plenty of proven firepower. Karim Benzema comes off the back of one of his best-ever seasons and having netted four times in the tournament this season, he’ll fancy his chances of turning this tie on its head.

Barcelona vs Napoli

It feels like just yesterday that Barcelona were the European powerhouse, favourites to win the tournament every year. However, times have changed in Catalonia with manager turnovers and bad transfer business taking its toll on an ageing side.

They still have star men in Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Antonie Griezmann, but they’ll need the trio to be at their very best to progress despite their phenomenal European record at the Camp Nou.

Napoli themselves have struggled this season, missing out on European qualification in Serie A, but boasting the third-highest scorer in the Champions League this season in Dries Mertens, they pose a real threat to a vulnerable Barcelona defence.
