We are now two games into the 2020 Six Nations and it has so far proven to be a tight affair. However, as we head into the third game which signals the halfway mark, this is where the competition really heats up.

Let’s take a look at what this weekend has in store.

six nations week 3 of 5 fixtures 2020

All times are in UK Time

France v Wales

About France

After defeating England in their opening game and following that up with a win against Italy– albeit by a lesser margin then they would have hoped- they are in a good position going into a tough game against Wales. A win here would put all the pressure of Ireland who they are currently joint at the top of the table with, but anything else would give them the chance to capitalise by winning in their match. They will also be conscious that Ireland has an undemanding match against Italy next while they will be up against the trickier, Scotland. As such, losing here would cost them dearly.

About Wales

For Wales, they will need to not lose here to keep their hopes alive of taking home a second consecutive Six Nations trophy. Their loss against Ireland put them on the backfoot and now they have a tricky game in this match-up which is then directly followed with one England – who they are currently level with. As such, they need a win here too as a loss would mean their journey will effectively be over and gift France or Ireland the trophy.

At the bookmakers, it is tight but Wales has the edge with 4/9 odds offered by most bookmakers, including Bet365 and William Hill, with most bookmakers, including these same bookers, offering 9/5 on France.

England v Ireland

About England

Before a ball was kicked in the 2020 tournament, this match would have been penciled in as being the game that would decide who is going to take home the title and, in some ways, it still is, although maybe not in the way many people would have thought.

This is because England are not so much in the running for the title anymore and are already out the running for a Grand Slam too owing to their loss against France in the first match. This has meant that they are trailing Ireland and France by 4 points and a win here is imperative to keep their hopes alive for this year and even then they will be relying on a France loss.

About Ireland

Ireland will be sharing that want for a French loss as in this scenario, they could settle for a rare draw here and still take the lead in the standings. However, you won’t expect them to be happy with that and after already defeating Wales in their last match by a convincing 10-point margin, they have shown they’re as formidable as ever against the home nations.

They will know they have an easy challenge against Italy next too so go into that with a win here will mean they will have as good as sealed the deal already with just France to face in their final game.

By the time this kicks off Sunday, we will know the result of Wales and France and then know the repercussions of the result here. Despite the current standings, William Hill, Betfred and PaddyPower are offering 4/11, while the latter and Betfair are offering 23/10 on Ireland.

Scotland v Italy.

About Italy

Italy are performing the same way as always and although they showed a valiant effort against France, they are ranked bottom of the table once again.

About Scotland

Scotland showed an equally valiant effort against both England and Ireland though so they definitely look the stronger and their close finishes have given them a 2 point lead in the tables over Italy.

The result of this is already fairly arbitrary but Scotland has 3/10 odds at most bookies, including Betfred which is offering a respectable 9/4 on Italy.
