World Championship Snooker overview

The 6 Red World Championship is an annual snooker tournament focusing on the six red variants of the game. As the name suggests, in this game there are only six red balls on the table, instead of the usual 15. Apart from that, six red snooker works in practically the same way as regular snooker. The tournament is due to take place in the Thai capital of Bangkok and run from 2 to 7 September inclusive. Since starting in 2008, a total of 10 six red world tournaments have taken place. Brit Kyren Wilson is the reigning champion, having won against China’s Ding Junhui with a final score of 8-4.

There are a total of 32 players taking part in the tournament. Of course, Kyren Wilson has a lot of support and is expected to win, if not come close. There’s also a good chance that last year’s runner up Ding Junhui will manage to emerge as this year’s winner, especially since he won in 2016. Last year’s victor, Mark Williams, maybe one to watch, as might Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, who was last year’s runner-up and won in 2015.

Looking at the odds, Paddy Power has Ding Junhui at 4/7 to win and Joe Perry at 5/4, with the next top players including Gary Wilson (8/15), Akani Songsermsawad (11/8) and Mark Selby (1/66). Over at William Hill, it’s Mark Selby who’s expected to win, with his odds currently at 6/1. He’s followed by John Higgins at 13/2, Kyren Wilson at 7/1 and both Mark Williams and Ding Junhui at 8/1. Ladbrokes favours Kyren Wilson and Mark Selby to win – both have odds of 7/1 – with John Higgins at 15/2, and both David Gilbert and Stuart Bingham at 9/1.

So across these few bookies, there’s really a single player who’s backed to win.
