Events and eSports Competitions to Bet on in July 2020

Although July is somewhat an off-season in the world of e-sports betting, there are still a handful of events you can tune in to watch and bet on at leading bookmakers.

This is thanks to three separate League of Legends leagues happening in across the globe in North America, Europe, and South Korea. While all these begun in June, matches from the leagues will be happening across July up until when the league comes to a close in August.

LCS 2020 Summer

The LCS Summer competition kicks off on July 04th and finish on July 27th

The first event we will be looking at which you can bet on during July is the LCS 2020 Summer, which is the North America’s fully professional League for LoL.

Organised by Riot Games, it is a highly respected and sought-after event in the League of Legends betting calendar for North Americans.

Format

There are 10 teams who participate in the competition, where they partake in a double round-robin format with each match being a best of one.

The way the competition works is that it begins with a league format, from which 8 teams will emerge into the playoffs.

The playoffs will then break down as follows:

  • Top two teams receive a bye to winners’ bracket round 2
  • 3rd to 6th play in the winners’ bracket
  • 7th and 8th play in the losers’ bracket

Schedule

The event has already begun on 12th June 2020 and is set to run until the 9th August 2020. Due to this, a large number of matches will be taking place during the weeks of July.

These events are as follows:

  • Week 4 – Saturday, July 4th – Monday, July 6th
  • Week 5 – Saturday, July 11th – Monday 13th July
  • Week 6 – Saturday, July 18th – Monday 20th July
  • Week 7 – Saturday, July 25th – Monday 27th July

The LEC 2020 Summer is essentially the European counterpart of the LCS. The event is now in its second year in its current format, having been rebranded from the now-defunct League of Legends league.

Despite being relatively new, it is held in the same esteem as the LCS and is also organised by Riot Games. This year’s event will be held in Germany but will be widely available for viewing and betting online.

Format

The event follows a slightly different format to the LCS but only when it comes to the play-off stages.

It will see 10 teams participate in the event in a Double Round Robin format and matches will be the best of one during an initial league stage.  

It will be slightly tougher for European teams to reach the play-offs of the event as there will be just 6 spots up for grabs.

Once teams reach the play-offs the event gets a bit more complicated, panning out as follows:

  • Top 4 teams play in the winners’ bracket
  • 5th plays against 6th in the losers’ bracket

During this stage, a double elimination bracket will be in place.

Matches in this period of the event will play out as follows:

  • 1st seed picks between 3rd and 4th seed in Round 1
  • The loser with the lower seed from winners’ bracket round 2 plays in losers’ bracket round 2
  • The loser with the higher seed from winners’ bracket round 2 plays in losers’ bracket round 3

Once the event has been completed, the top three teams will win qualification to the Worlds 2020 Main Event, while the 4th place team will win entry to the World’s 2020 Play-in event.

Schedule

This league began on the 12th June and will go on until 09th August 2020. 3 weeks’ worth events will be held in July, with one event happening on the 31st July.

These events will happen as follows:

  • Week 4: Friday, July 3rd and Saturday, July 4th
  • Week 5: Friday, July 17rd and Saturday, July 18th
  • Week 6: Friday, July 24th and Saturday, July 25th
  • Week 7Friday, July 31st and Saturday 1st August

 LCK 2020 Summer Season

The LCK 2020 Summer competition kicks off on July 01st and finish on August 2nd

The LCK 2020 Summer Season is the Korean version of the LoL Summer League and is the second split of the larger, League Champions Korea.

The event is also hosted by Riot Games but differs slightly in the rewards that go to the teams who are most successful in the tournament because as well as potentially progressing to the World’s 2020 Main event, there is also hundreds of thousands of South Korean Won up for grabs too.

Format

Like the other summer seasons happening worldwide at the moment, the LCK 2020 consists of 10 teams in a Double Round Robin format.

Unlike the other seasons though, matches following a best of 3 formats and only 5 teams will qualify to the play-offs meaning half the teams will not make the cut.

The top 5 teams will qualify to the play-offs which play out as follows:

  • King of the Hill single elimination bracket
  • Round 1 is best of three
  • All other matches are best of five

At the play-offs, ₩ 300,000,000 South Korean Won is spread among the top 5 teams. However, even if you do not reach the playoffs, teams can win money at the rate of 33.33% of $100,000 which will be distributed among the other 5 teams in the league who do not qualify.

  • Week 4 – Wednesday 8th July – Sunday 12th July
  • Week 5 – Wednesday 15th July – Sunday 19th July
  • Week 6 – Thursday 23rd July – Sunday 26th July
  • Week 7 – Thursday 30th July – Sunday 2nd August
